Up North Cabin...

Last month we went up north to stay at our friend Mrs. J's resort. The resort is not in operation any longer but she lets friends stay in the cabins. The resort started back in the 20's (I think) but there are quite a few Mid Century items in the cabins. I wanted to show everyone some of the cool stuff.

This is the bathroom of our cabin...
What looks like pink tile is actually paneling. The white "grout lines" are cut into the panels giving the look of tile. The white above are also panels. The whole panel sections are trimmed with the aluminum. I thought this was a pretty slick system. I wish I could find some unused panels like this for myself.
I thought this hand painted shower curtain was pretty cool.
Here are the lights in our cabin. They are retractable George Nelson bubble style lights. I had never seen this combination before. Usually Nelson lights are not retractable. They are pretty yellowed and dirty from age. I did tell Mrs. J that if she were to ever get rid of them I would kindly take them off her hands. Not sure how they would clean up but I think it would be worth a shot.

EDIT: I did just find a retractable Nelson light from a 70's catalog...HERE.

Wow! What a great site! I clicked on over from RetroRenovation. I looked through a couple of your archive posts....and found a treasure trove of resources--I've been wanting to get one of those front doors with the three panes and had no clue where to even start looking--and now I know! Thanks so much. I'm also looking for those aluminum screen doors with the initial in the center--any info on those?
I gather you are in WI somewhere--I used to live in Milwaukee, but am now in SoCal. I'm trying to get my 1948 home back to its original glory and need all the help I can get.
I'm going to be in Milwaukee soon--any recommendations for finding good stuff?

Thanks. I'm glad you like the blog.

I know of the screen doors you are talking about. It would be tough to find. Moon Shine makes a screen door insert that is pretty neat...

Places in Milwaukee to go...

My favorite is Tip Top Atomic Shop...
http://atomicaddiction.blogspot.com/2008/07/run-dont-walk-to.html
There are a few more small shops on that street as well. In fact if you talk to them at Tip Top they will guide you to some great shops.

Another we had luck at is Fox Skylight Antiques...
http://www.foxskylightantiques.com/

That should get you started in Milwaukee.

Good luck on your quest...

Cool! thanks! I've been to the Tip Top place but not the other one.
You weren't kidding about the price of those doors....I don't think I'll be getting one anytime soon.

Hello, I found your blog through RetroRenovation as well; it's spectacular. I just started my blog, but I'm sort of technically challenged...I was wondering if you could tell me, how do I put links on my page to other blogs?

To add a blog list...
Once you sign in to your acount you should see CUSTOMIZE at the top of your blog.
Once in LAYOUT you should see a overview of elements of your blog page.
Click on ADD A GADGET.
Select BLOG LIST. It should add a gadget to the left hand side (in your case). Just click on that and it will bring up a pop up window. start adding your favorite blogs. You can just paste the URLs and type in the name of each blog.
REMEMBER TO CLICK SAVE! I have lost a little bit of work from not doing this.

I hope this is clear enough and helps.
