Rack Em' Up...

Another fun thing to find is magazine racks. I see a bunch of neat racks on Ebay all the time but the shipping on there will kill ya. Here are two I have found localy...

-The first is a classic Mid Century style. Some times the ends are balls instead of points but its all the same to me. I found this one in a thrift shop for $1.00. It was shiny plated brass when I bought it. Some quick scuffing, a shot of primer, and a few coats of flat black made this a lot cooler.

-The second is a magazine rack/ashtray combo. I found this on a different trip to the same thrift store. I did a little bit of cleaning the frame with steel wool. A few shots of flat black spray paint on the thin metal rack liner to stop it from rusting and she was back to life. The top is neat. It may be hard to see in the pictures. It has two spots for the actual ashes and a spot for your drink. I belive the area on the opposite side of the drink coaster is for matches, lighters or packs of smokes themselfs. It does not really matter. In our house the top only gets used to hold drinks and sometimes TV remotes. I only paid $3.00 for this one.

I'm still on the lookout for more. Why not? They are cheap and cool. Again, I will post if anything new comes up...

That magazine rack with the ashtray is AWESOME! I have a much less awesome one, so much less awesome that it has been banished to the basement. And for $3!?! My thrift stores would have charged way more than that, their prices are getting higher all the time.

I agree that these make great additions to a living room or wherever you sit and read. I see them a lot at estate sales. Snap them up!
